The smart device has taken on a place of substantial significance in hospital wards, not only alleviating boredom through its endless methods of engagement, but also as something that is familiar to the patient, a thing that is known, giving a sense of ”home” in a foreign clinical environment that holds no sense of self.
Vic witnessed patients and families using smart devices throughout the day and night, and he understood the potential to use the device to offer a new way to explore the sonic landscape of the hospital.
To this end, he has created a mobile platform experience which allows the sharing of all of the outcomes of this project, and which also creates opportunities for people to undertake self-directed workshops that explore the soundscape. The platform is therefore both a form of entertainment and a means of education about sound.
